Our Infrastructure - major improvement projects

Snowy Valleys Council is proud to be delivering over $3 million in Government funded infrastructure and improvement projects for the community of Batlow.

Batlow Cannery Demolition - $500,000

Purchase of the cannery site and targeted demolition of unusable structures and clean-up. The site was purchased in late 2018 and demolition works commenced in December 2019. The site was bushfire impacted in January 2020 and required additional works. The demolition and additional clean-up was completed in April 2020.

Batlow Cannery Site Business Case - $200,000

Due to the high public safety risk posed by the friable asbestos present at the Cannery site as a result of the black summer bushfires, mitigation site works had a significant impact on Council’s budget. Council is currently leasing sections of the site to a commercial nursery and is scoping the opportunity to develop a business masterplan as a future project, to investigate long term use opportunities for the site.

Batlow Caravan Park Upgrade - $723,000

Extensive upgrades included the installation of new buildings including six cabins, office, amenities and camp kitchen, improvements to roads and fencing and electrical upgrades. The park reopened to the public in July 2020.

Batlow CBD Master Plan and Amenity - $540,000

The streetscape revitalisation works included pavement repairs and resurfacing, new waste bins, seating and planter boxes and refurbishment of the Pioneer Street amenities. The project was completed in March 2021.

Batlow Library - $1,000,000

The new library was official opened on 2 February 2021, although enthusiastic locals have been enjoying the spacious modern space since late 2020.

Batlow Playground Equipment Upgrade - $25,000

Replace playground equipment in HV Smith Park. This project was completed in December 2019.

Batlow Tourism Project - $20,000

Development of improved visitor information facilities. New static visitor information signs with locality maps and online resources were installed in early August 2020.

Batlow Wi-Fi Upgrade - $10,000

Public Wi-Fi access within the town centre was installed in June 2021.
