    The Tumbarumba Rail Trail working group did a walking assessment of the trail today. They covered all sorts of items including fencing, bridges, flora, fauna, obstacles and strategies for landowner access.

    Construction phase of the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail is on target to commence at the end of March 2019.

    Snowy Valleys Council’s Mayor Cr James Hayes said he was pleased with the planning progress and the joint working relationship between Council staff and local community groups.

    “Member for Albury, Greg Aplin and I met up with members of the rail trail working group today for a review of the draft designs and discussions on the program of works to be undertaken,” said Cr Hayes.

    A boundary survey of the full rail trail corridor and a detailed feature survey of the corridor are on track to be delivered to Council by the end of November.

    Snowy Valleys Council Acting Director Assets and Infrastructure Heinz Kausche said he was pleased with the progress of the survey and that progress was on track as planned.

    “The physical survey tasks were finished at the end of October and once the full survey documents are delivered work can commence on the trail design,” Mr Kausche said.

    Approximately 200m of rail and sleepers were successfully removed from a section of the rail trail as part of a trial run to see what removal processes were practical and efficient.

    An air-compressor driven rattle gun was used to remove some heavily rusted and corroded nuts and bolts holding the lines together, and an excavator with grab attachment was the successful method used to remove the rails.

    Candence Consulting Surveyors Pty Ltd have been awarded the survey contract for Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail.

    The scope of works incorporated into the survey tender includes a boundary survey of the full rail trail corridor and a detailed feature survey of the corridor, for the purposes of design and a draft and final set of drawings.

    Survey works, and final drawings are expected to be completed by the end of November 2018.
