The project was officially opened on Wednesday 27 March 2023 and the park was abuzz with the sounds of children playing and people chatting. A big thank you to Cycle Tumbarumba members for putting on a delicious afternoon tea. Council worked closely with Cycle Tumbarumba to integrate the bicycle playground into the parks upgrades, resulting in a fantastic outcome.

Stage one include:

  • New amenities building – wheelchair accessible and raised above flood level for cleaning cost-saving
  • Landscaping and concrete terrace seating facing the skatepark and turf mound facing the oval
  • Cycle Playground – new playground incorporating cycle and nature play. Cycle Tumbarumba secured a NSW Government grant and oversaw the building
  • Low maintenance plantings and more seating and picnic tables
  • New playground equipment
  • Sculptures – designed and installed by Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail

Funding

Through the NSW Government's Public Spaces Legacy Program Council received $650,000 for Tumbarumba Skatepark & Playground (Creekscape) Masterplanning and Upgrade Project.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who attended our park pop-ups late last year or met with us separately around the development of the master plans. Your feedback was incorporated into the final Masterplan which has now been endorsed by Council. The Masterplan will help to prioritise future projects when funding becomes available.

Not everything detailed in the Masterplan is included in stage one, but having the plan allows us to have a considered and staged approach to improvements as funding becomes available.

Stage one of the Tumbarumba Creekscape upgrade includes:

    • New amenities building – wheelchair accessible and raised above flood level (old amenities to be demolished)
    • Landscaping and concrete terrace seating facing the skatepark and turf mould facing the oval
    • Cycle Playground – new playground incorporating cycle and nature play. Cycle Tumbarumba are funding and managing this project
    • Improved drainage and increased green infrastructure to clean storm water flows
    • Low maintenance, high biodiversity rain gardens and a dry creek bed nature play element
    • Sculptures – designed and installed by Snowy Valleys Sculpture Trail

We anticipate Stage one upgrades to get underway after Winter.

Thanks to everyone who dropped in, your ideas will be used to further develop the masterplan and for prioritising future projects when funding becomes available.
