Tumbarumba Showground Resurfacing and New Amenities
Consultation has concluded
Our Infrastructure - Provide well maintained safe, vibrant and accessible community spaces and facilities
Background
Snowy Valleys Council secured $1 million in funding from the NSW Government’s Major Projects Infrastructure Fund to undertake a major refurbishment of the Tumbarumba Showground.
The Project
The Tumbarumba community and showground user groups identified the refurbishment as a high priority. The outdated appearance and age of existing facilities no longer serviced or met user needs. Many cold, wet winters had also left the showground in a poor state, with frequent water-logging creating a patchy and uneven playing surface.
The surface upgrade project was completed in October 2019, ground works included removal of the existing playing surface and leveling and reconfiguration of the rugby oval to incorporate a rodeo arena. A drainage and automatic irrigation system has be installed and the new turf has been laid, returning the showground to its former glory.
The new amenities building situated outside the pavilion was open in December 2020. The new modern amenities and change rooms are a welcome improvement for the community. The showground user groups can now look forward to hosting visitors for camp drafts, football matches and major events.
