Council has engaged WMAwater to undertake a detailed Flood Study for Tumbarumba. The Flood Study will give Council a better understanding of the current flood risk to the community and support a range of Council functions including development, planning, community education and mitigation works.
This project is supported by the NSW Government’s Floodplain Management Program which aims to reduce the impacts of flooding and flood liability on individual owners and occupiers and to minimise private and public losses resulting from flooding.

Community members are invited to learn more about the newly prepared draft Tumbarumba Flood Study 2026 and provide their feedback at two Pop-up sessions happening in April. Join Council staff and WMA water representatives to view a hard copy of the draft document and ask any questions.
The Tumbarumba Flood Study aims to provide an understanding of the nature and extent of potential flooding from the Tumbarumba Creek, and its tributaries including Sheep Station Creek, Pound Creek, Doctors Creek Pipeclay Gully (mainstream flooding), and local stormwater runoff that drains to these waterways (overland flow).

The first stage of the Flood Study collected, compiled and reviewed all available information, including valuable community knowledge and experiences of past floods. As part of the study, computer models were established to determine flood behaviour in Tumbarumba. To ensure the flood models are as accurate as possible, historical data such as observations and photos of flooding behaviour from the community was also used.
