The Project

Stage 2 of the Khancoban Pool upgrades include new amenities with toilets, shower, disabled access, canteen, entry area and office, a new fence around the pool facility and the installation of solar heating and a blanket system to help regulate water temperature.

The new amenities building is located at the opposite end of the pool to the old building to enable ramp access and disabled entry parking.

Due to popular demand the old amenities building wasn't demolished as per initial scope of works. The building has been fitted out with a new toilet to facilitate the park and solar panels for the pools solar heating system were installed on the roof. The upgrades were completed prior to the 2023/24 swim season.

Funding

Snowy Valleys Council received $600,000 for Stage 2 of the Khancoban Pool Upgrades from the Bushfire Economic Recovery Funding Round 2 which is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments.

Stage one of the pool upgrade was completed in 2017 and included building a new 25 metre pool with disability access and a toddler’s pool. The $685,000 project was supported by a $215,000 National Stronger Regions grant, along with a healthy funding injection from Snowy Valleys Council and various Khancoban community groups.

Unfortunately the ongoing wet weather meant the pouring of the concrete footings could not happen the week as planned.

We have our fingers crossed for a break in the weather and have rescheduled the footings and building delivery for the end of this month.

On-site works to demolish the existing amenities building will get underway soon.

A contract has been awarded for the construction of the new amenities building and we are in the final design stage. The building will be constructed off-site and local trades will be utilised where possible during the installation and commissioning stage.

The current amenities are no longer suitable, safe or secure for residents, and are not compliant with accessibility standards.
