Khancoban General Store
Background
Funding of $199,000 was secured from the NSW Government's Major Projects Infrastructure fund to purchase the vacant Khancoban General Store and undertake minor refurbishments of the shopfront to support attraction of future retail to Khancoban.
Council purchased the store for $110,000 (including GST) in 2018.
The Project
The former General Store is centrally located at the Khancoban Shopping Centre. The site consists of one lot with existing store building including retail space with carpark frontage, storage space with laneway access, and a cool room with rear access.
Snowy Valleys Council invites expressions of interest for the development of a commercial business in the premises. Options under consideration include:
- Purchase and development of a commercial business
- Lease and development of a commercial business
- A joint venture with Council to develop and operate a commercial business
While a functioning supermarket or general store is preferable, other enterprises that would complement Khancoban's existing businesses will be considered. There are also plans for a community meeting space to be included in the design.
Minor refurbishment of the General Store is to be completed by 31 December 2019.
