Draft Council Committees Framework

Committees contribute significantly to Snowy Valley Council’s business and provide a valuable and vital link between the operation of Council and the community.

Committee members are volunteers for our community, working side by side with Council to deliver services, facilities and informed decision making and as a result, share many obligations and responsibilities.

Snowy Valleys Council currently has more than 30 Committees operating across the region.

There are two types of Council committees:

• Advisory Committees - provide valuable advice from the community perspective for Council decision making processes. Membership may include experts, professionals, government employees, community representatives, Councillors and Council employees.

• Community Committees - manage community assets such as community halls, reserves and facilities on behalf of Council. These committees represent diverse user groups and encourage broader community participation, and their volunteer labour has considerable dollar value.

• Draft Council Committees Operation Manual - developed to help current and future committee members, fulfil their role to the best of their ability.
• Draft Council Committees Policy – Provides a consistent approach to the establishment of Council Committees and the appointment, roles and responsibilities of committees

Written submissions may be attached to the public report that is submitted to Council, unless you explicitly request you do not wish this to occur. They are subject to the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 and the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act (PIPPA).
