Towns and Villages - Town improvement and beautification

Master plan development

We're developing a long term improvement Master Plan for the main CBD of Batlow

We're working to create a vibrant and welcoming space for the entire Batlow community and guide improvements for the coming decades.

The draft plans included road resurfacing, footpath and kerb reconstruction, feature paving, street tree planting, storm water drainage upgrades, safer pedestrian access, and improved parking.

Community consultation

We held community meetings and online community consultation in June 2018 relating to the draft staging plans.

We asked people to rank in priority order the improvements that were most important to them and to let us know of any additional suggestions that should be included in the plans.

We also asked you to rank the CBD streets in your priority order of upgrade.

All this feedback has been tabled and will be used to inform the scope for the creation of the 5 year Master Plan.

Share your vision for the future

During our community consultation we asked community members to describe their vision for the Batlow CBD of the future. Some of the responses included:

  • A tourist destination with boutique shops including cider/local produce.
  • Arty and alternative
  • More trees, sitting areas, streetscape to bring out Batlow's charm
  • A friendly, inviting and welcoming atmosphere that promotes a picturesque image and space for community involvement

The township of Batlow has been recognized as an official ‘RV Friendly Town’ by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA).

Snowy Valleys Council Mayor James Hayes said achieving the ‘RV Friendly Town’ status for Batlow was a great example of a community/Council partnership.

“We heard from the Batlow community as part of our SV2028 Community Engagement that tourists and visitors were high on their agenda, and the many unique and beautiful offerings of our region will make Batlow an ideal location for travellers to stop and stay for a while. This will all add to the economic sustainability and liveability of the town,” Cr Hayes said.
