Master plan development

We're developing a long term improvement Master Plan for the main CBD of Batlow

We're working to create a vibrant and welcoming space for the entire Batlow community and guide improvements for the coming decades.

The draft plans included road resurfacing, footpath and kerb reconstruction, feature paving, street tree planting, storm water drainage upgrades, safer pedestrian access, and improved parking.

Community consultation

We held community meetings and online community consultation in June 2018 relating to the draft staging plans.

We asked people to rank in priority order the improvements that were most important to them and to let us know of any additional suggestions that should be included in the plans.

We also asked you to rank the CBD streets in your priority order of upgrade.

All this feedback has been tabled and will be used to inform the scope for the creation of the 5 year Master Plan.

Share your vision for the future

During our community consultation we asked community members to describe their vision for the Batlow CBD of the future. Some of the responses included:

A tourist destination with boutique shops including cider/local produce.
Arty and alternative
More trees, sitting areas, streetscape to bring out Batlow's charm
A friendly, inviting and welcoming atmosphere that promotes a picturesque image and space for community involvement

Batlow - Rhododendron Capital of the Alpine Foothills.

Rhododendrons are probably the most successful flowering evergreen plant to be found in Batlow gardens. We even have a large commercial grower of Rhododendrons and Mollis Azalea in town. With all the different varieties, flowering occurs over a long season. I would like to see the evergreen small leafed, smaller varieties used as street plantings especially along Pioneer & Reedy Sts, and Batlow Road. I would like to see Reedy Creek Park turned into a rhododendron garden incorporating the existing native, exotics and trees suitable for bog areas. There is a beautiful example of just such a garden at Blackheath called the Campbell Rhododendron Gardens. See https://rhodogarden.org.au/ Reedy Creek Park is an ideal spot and would make a beautiful entrance to our little town. If provided with more picnic facilities in the less boggy areas, Reedy Creek would become a tourist stop off spot and provide huge appeal to locals. Along with that, a clean up of the house located on the edge of Reedy Creek Park is desperately needed. At the moment - it is an eyesore and a very bad introduction to visitors.
