Consultation has concluded

Council provides accessible services and initiatives which support and contribute to wellbeing across all stages of life.

Home dialysis is often the only feasible option for people living in rural or remote communities, unless they are willing to relocate; a water rebate provides additional support for customers to remain in their own home.

Dialysis machines use large volumes of water and rely on an uninterrupted supply of water for continuous operation. Customers choosing to undertake home dialysis will incur water accounts higher than normal due to increased water consumption.

Council proposes to provide an initial fixed quarterly water usage dispensation of 30 kilolitres, where it is confirmed that a dialysis machine is being used by a resident of a property.

The allowance is provided on the water account sent directly to the property owner, or real estate agent in the case of a rental property.

The application process will require written evidence from a registered medical practitioner or hospital indicating that the resident is required to undertake home dialysis treatment.
