Tumut Skate Park Redevelopment

The new skate park opened on 1 April 2021 in time for the Easter school holidays, and has proved to be a popular meeting place for locals and visitors.

About the project

Council received $137,230 in grant funding from the second round of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Community Fund to redevelop the existing Tumut Skate Park.

The redevelopment is an exciting addition to the existing youth infrastructure in the area and provides a larger and improved skate park which better suits the needs of the youth of Tumut and visitors who utilise the site.

The build

The modern design sits in the south-west corner of the Tumut Bull Paddock (near the corner of Fitzroy and Sydney Streets) in between the existing skate park area and neighbouring basketball court and is designed to cater for younger beginners who want to practice on flatter areas away from the larger bowl area.

    21 April 2021

The new skate park opened on 1 April in time for the Easter school holidays, and it was a popular meeting place for locals and visitors.

To celebrate National Youth Week Council hosted a free skate workshop to round out the school holidays. The event was facilitated by experts from TOTEM Skateboarding and saw a great turnout. Our younger boarders learnt many new skills and gained valuable confidence.

Deputy Mayor John Larter welcomed the enthusiastic skaters and an ice-cream van provided some tasty treats, a fantastic atmosphere and great day out!

    16 February 2021

We understand our keen skateboarders are getting a little impatient with the lack of action at the Tumut Skate Park.

Our interstate contractor has been hampered by travel restrictions and health advice associated with the latest Victorian outbreak may cause further delays.

The contractor was scheduled to re-start early next week and finish the project to meet agreed milestones, we will keep you posted as the situation evolves.

Good news for our skateboarding enthusiasts with the re-opening of the existing skate park. Improvement works to the existing park were completed over the weekend to ensure the new section flows seamlessly with the old section. Fencing will remain around the new addition and part of the basketball court whilst works continue.

    18 November 2020

With the NSW/VIC border opening next week we have been given the opportunity to get the contractor onsite to deliver the Tumut Skate Park project before Christmas.

Due to this late breaking development the site including the existing skate park and part of the basketball court will be fenced off from today to prepare for the new addition.

Whilst we know this is an inconvenience to our keen skateboarders and basketballers we are excited to see the new beginner and intermediate bowl take shape.

From Monday there will be lots of moving parts on site, please take care when in the area.

    17 September 2020

It is looking like the Tumut Skate extension may be delayed due to COVID 19 restrictions.

The contractor engaged to do the work is unable to travel to Tumut to commence work due to border restrictions.

We are hopeful the delay is minimal as we wait for restrictions to be eased.

    13 August 2020

Tumut’s youth precinct at the south-west corner of the Tumut Bull Paddock is about to get an upgrade with an expanded skate park.

The skatepark redevelopment is an exciting addition for Tumut’s youth and visitors to the area and is designed to cater for a younger, less skilled age group complementing the existing skate park.
