BACKGROUND

The Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct (SAP) was announced in November 2019 by NSW Planning.

NSW Planning, in collaboration with the Department of Regional NSW, is currently developing a 40-year master plan for the Snowy Mountains SAP to stimulate economic development, investment and increase year-round jobs in the region.

The implementation of the master plan is to be funded from the sale of NSW’s share of the Snowy Hydro Scheme via the Snowy 2.0 legacy fund.

Although 90% of the power generated by Snowy Hydro is generated in the Snowy Valleys Council area, there is no investment proposed by the current plan for the Snowy Valleys apart from accommodation at the Yarrangobilly Caves.

Elliott Way is an important transport route for residents of Snowy Valleys and critical to ensuring the Snowy Valleys region can access and obtain benefit from the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct and Snowy 2.0.

It has been closed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service since the Black Summer Bushfire of 2019-20.

The importance of opening Elliott Way and investing in other feeder transport routes within the Snowy Valleys is vital to ensuring Snowy Valleys' residents can realise the opportunities presented by the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct.

Attend the Public Forum to hear from:

  • NSW Planning – Julian Mitton – Director, Precincts & Freight
  • NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service – Ryan Petrov - Manager, Southern Ranges Services
  • Member for Albury – Justin Clancy MP
  • Member for Wagga Wagga – Dr Joe McGirr MP
  • SnowyHydro – Dean Lynch – Relations Manager Snowy 2.0

Help develop a course of action to getting our voice heard:

During the meeting an agreed course of action will be determined to ensure the concerns of residents are included in future considerations for these important projects.
