Draft Mannus Lake Blue-Green Algae Management Policy


Council is committed to protecting and managing local air quality, waterways, rivers and streams

Mannus Lake has experienced severe algal blooms during the previous two summers, impacting the raw water supply to downstream users.

The Draft Mannus Lake Blue-Green Algae Management Policy is intended to guide Council on the management and response to Blue-Green Algae blooms.

The policy commits Council to the effective management of algal blooms in Mannus Lake to reduce the risk to public health in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council Guidelines for Managing Risk in recreational Water.

Management includes identifying and responding to Blue-Green Algae blooms in a quick, efficient and well planned way including ensuring that appropriate warning signage is posted.

The policy also outlines a commitment from council to water monitoring and testing along with assisting affected landholders with domestic water supply.
