2023 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR PROJECT

The 10km stretch of Brindabella Road between the Goodradigbee River and Piccadilly Circus (ACT border) is now wider and safer than ever.

Work focused on improving safety for users by widening the road and improving steep edges and road shoulders. In places, the road has been widened by up to four metres and the excavated material has been used to form safety barriers to prevent steep drop-offs.

The project included:

  • Vegetation maintenance – trimming and removal of dangerous branches and trees in consultation with NPWS
  • Stormwater maintenance – cleaning out and inspections of all culverts
  • Edge repair and shoulder maintenance –improvements to tight curves to improve access for heavy vehicles
  • Batter maintenance – Localised scaling and batter stabilisation to remove loose rocks and stabilise the roadside
  • Pavement repairs and maintenance – pothole repairs, scour repairs, pavement regrading and strengthening with imported road base material, resealing of existing sealed sections
  • Delineation maintenance – replacement and installation of guideposts and advisory signage
  • Safety Barrier Installation - at two locations nearby Piccadilly Circus
  • Road resealing works

Works were completed in December 2023.

Council received $3,000,000 from the NSW Government's Fixing Local Roads Fund for these safety improvement works.

FEB 2023 - MORE BRINDABELLA ROAD FUNDING ANNOUNCED

An additional $20M in funding for Brindabella Road was announced by the Hon. Catherine King MP, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government and the Hon. Kristy McBain MP, Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories. Council welcomed the funding announcement and will now work through the prioritisation of the next stage of road works, as the associated funding agreement is finalised with the Department.

The previously announced $17.4M for Brindabella Road is for the upgrade, reconstruction and re-alignment of the road between Piccadilly Circus and the Brindabella Valley to address safety concerns with the existing road, improve liveability for residents, improve business productivity and enable an uplift in tourism visitation.
