Adelong Creek Riparian Stabilisation Work
Council secured funding from the NSW Severe Weather and Flood Grant, provided by the NSW Office of Local Government, to clear debris along Adelong Creek’s public recreation areas and to design and repair the creek bank, reducing erosion and protecting native wildlife habitats.
The work will focus on two areas along the creek, one at the Bleak Street end of Selwyn Street and another behind the Adelong Showgrounds.
Planned works include:
- Strengthening the creek bank with large timber and/or rock to prevent further erosion
- Removing invasive plants and restoring native vegetation
- Improving water quality and habitat for native wildlife
- Making the area safer and more visually appealing
- Providing better protection against minor flood events
Council has engaged NSW Soil Conservation Service (SCS) to carry out the works.

Creek stabilisation works at Bleak Street are now complete. Rocks and timber logs have been installed to strengthen the creek bank, while also enhancing water quality and providing improved habitat for native species. Invasive vegetation along the upper creek bank has been cleared and will be replaced with appropriate native species following winter.
Works have now commenced at the Showground site, where similar stabilisation measures will be undertaken. Selected timber removed from Bleak Street will be repurposed to assist with access into the waterway at the Showground.

Thanks to everyone who joined our recent information session about the Adelong Creek Repair Works. We had great conversations with NSW Soil Conservation and received lots of positive feedback from the community.
Work has now begun removing exotic vegetation from the top side of the creek bank at Bleak Street. This is the first stage of works to strengthen the bank and help prevent erosion, before the project moves into the creek itself.
Works on site are expected to continue over the coming months.
