Council sustainably manages waste through a commitment to resource recovery and best practice waste management

Transitioning from disposing waste to processing resources

Council wants to create a resilient community where resources are managed and used rather than disposed of as waste. We want to transition from disposing waste to processing resources.

Zero waste focuses on waste prevention where all resources can be resumed fully back into the system and all products are reused. The goal is for no trash to be sent to landfill.

Achieving this ambitious goal requires adopting smart strategies.

Council's draft Zero Waste Strategy establishes that business-as-usual is no longer viable financially, socially, technologically, environmentally or regulatory. Rather, by thinking ahead and building resilience for the region Council can align itself with state and national policy targets.
