Upgrade to begin in May

19 March 2020

Council are in a position to advise an indicative start date for the planned Tumut CBD upgrade works. Input from businesses has been critical to determining what the works will involve as well when and how they will occur.

Feedback received during consultation in September has also influenced elements of the project such as access requirements for customers, staff and deliveries, design considerations and phasing of the works.

START DATE

With designs for the upgrade practically complete, Council is finalising the project planning necessary to commence the CBD upgrade in early May. Businesses have advised it is preferred to commence works after the School Holiday and Easter period.

CAUSES OF DELAY

The project has been delayed for a number of reason, namely;

- The bushfire response during January put extreme burden on council’s resources and as a consequence the paving tender did not progress as planned.

- Responses to the tender raised some constructed concerns in connection to the design, hence additional consideration into paving supply and installation options are being investigated to ensure best, long term product that provided most economical outcome while still giving the desired look.

- Assessment of Wynyard Street water main upgrade to determine if the two projects can be streamlined to minimise disruption to main street.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Council will make a decision on procurement of pavers at March Council Meeting. Once the pavers have been procured Council will finalise program of works.
