Council provides a planning and development framework which protects the local amenity while supporting sustainable growth and an appropriate balance of land use.
Council partners with local communities to create an ongoing culture of engagement to aid Council decision making.
Council’s Draft Community Participation Plan incorporates the existing Community Engagement Strategy and the draft planning participation documentation into one comprehensive document.
Part 1 of the document incorporates Council’s adopted Community Engagement Strategy.
Part 2 is designed to make it easier for the community to understand how to participate in planning matters in NSW and the Snowy Valleys Region. It does this by setting out in one place how and when community members can participate in the planning system and participation functions for different types of proposals.
Community participation is an overarching term covering how Council will engage the community in our work under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, including plan making and making decisions on proposed development. The level and extent of community participation will vary depending on the community, the scope of the proposal under consideration and the potential impact of the decision.
Adoption of a new Community Participation Plan will reduce risks related to compliance with legal requirements and the achievement of good governance in respect of development proposals.
Council is inviting the community to have their say on the Draft Community Participation Plan.
Submissions of comments relating to this draft policy may be made via the online feedback form (below); Submissions close at 11.59 pm on Monday 2 December 2019.
